Designing a Collection – You’ll produce a story board identifying trends, seasons, colors, fabrics, silhouettes and textures. From this you will begin to develop your own design, and choose colors and fabrics.
Next, you will help with the draping, pattern making and cutting of your design. You’ll have an introduction to the sewing machines that will make your design, and learn how to produce a cost sheet to determine the price it will sell for.
Lunch will be at the trendy Fred Segal Boutique, where we can see what the hip and cool are wearing. Then, tour the boutique and speak to the manager of the department suitable for our designs, and learn how placement of product works.
Finally, we return to the studio to photograph our design and learn about marketing, advertising, and agent representation. Students leave with their storyboard, notebook, sketch book and photos of their design. Inside the notebook are several helpful design materials and referrals for sewing schools, etc.
