I have to admit that as a father it is gratifying when my son immediately falls in line at my request despite the hours of defiance he demonstrated to my wife. However, I also agree that it is important for me, as the "alpha male" to teach him that his behavior towards mommy is not appropriate. He's only 3, but he's catching on.

Anyway, love the blog, and I plan to follow along.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Would my youngest do better if I just completely backed off and silently assumed that she knows what she's doing and doesn't need me haranguing her? It isn't that I tell her how to DO her homework; it's that I'm constantly asking if she's DONE it. And sometimes I do find that she hasn't and I get concerned. But why, really? Obviously she knows it has to get done. I'm going to try NOT to ask this question for awhile.

I know exactly what you mean! I have the added guilt when I moan about his job because it seems like I resent the time he spends with patients. I simply can't win.

This is probably one of my favorite posts from you. It's so damned honest. I remember thinking hard and often about having a third child and then walking by my daughters' elementary school, looking at the moms with babies in their arms while they waited for school to let out. And I remember acutely that sense of dread about losing freedom. It won out. I still sometimes have pangs for that third child and I'm sure you can't describe how much your little guy means to you all. But boy can I relate to your feelings.

Happened to come across this issue while at the doctors's with myson... things happen for a reason I am currently training to becomea Nutraceutical Consultant ,helping to integrate wellness programs into medical practices, therefore alternative treatments for chronic illnesses that doctors are illprepared to deal with. Having said that i recently helped my girlfriends 11 year old daughter that has been suffering with Acid reflux for a long time. Gave me goose bumps when she called at 9one evening to share with me that her daughter was relieved for the first time ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope I can share this further Give a call 781-646-6611 Lisa

You did it again, Andi! Here I am, after reading your last few entries, with tears in my eyes! What a pretty terrific family you have there.
Hope your mom is doing well.
