This past Christmas, I was convinced I had been scammed. I ordered a pair of teen heart-throb Ugg boots on eBay for one of my daughters. I thought, "Cool. What a deal. And they don't appear to be from China or some other country that will take months to deliver them." But the next day, I got an email from eBay actually chastising me for purchasing from this particular seller, that he appeared to be a fraud, and that they had taken his account down. I was furious and started the process of trying to get my money back through Pay Pal. And for weeks, Pay Pal faithfully investigated my claim. And then, inexplicably, but well after Christmas, the boots arrived. I felt incredibly embarrassed. The whole thing was legitimate after all. So I dealt with a different kind of guilt than the one you're describing above. But guilt just the same. ;)

Hey, I'll go in on one with you. We can switch off each snowstorm so that one of us gets the shoveling exercise for one storm and then the convenience of the big orange behemoth for the other. Of course, that would require transporting the machine back and forth between our two homes. On some kind of large monster truck. That could be a deal breaker. ;)

I couldn't understand some parts of this article The Random Discomfort of Parenting, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.

All hail Super Daddy! :) This also might be a good time to start reading Charlotte's Web, since spiders really do make a habit of being upside down.

I would recommend using a head set instead of a speaker phone. Most cordless phones have a jack for one so you can plug it in and be totally mobile (clip the phone on your belt and your hands free and ready to go). They only cover one ear so you can still hear, and a quick hand over the microphone makes a quick mute. I've done many a conference call that way and it works great.

I relate.
Every time I see those "designed" home offices, I want to laugh. How can work possibly get done on a desk clear of sliding piles of paper, dirty mugs and that free-for-all corner with bills, school flyers and clippings that never find a home? Add to it that most of the time my kids are at my desk with me--I don't think I could function in a quiet cubicle anymore!

This made me laugh. My husband has worked in a home office for several years now. Every morning, he dons a pair of boxer shorts and a ratty t-shirt and makes his "arduous commute" from the kitchen to the addition we built over the garage. There, he sits in front of a wardrobe-type "office" surrounded by a dog and two cats who prize this time of the day for napping. What's amazing about it all is that our two kids come and go through this area of the house as if he's not even there. And he works as if they're not even there. They're older kids, of course. Teenagers who aren't leaping up and down, playing some kind of imaginative game or otherwise making the kinds of great noises younger kids make. So it stands to reason they'd be somewhat quieter around his "office" environment. But it still amazes - and amuses - me.
